Amethyst is a variety of quartz that occurs [throughout the world] either in crystalline or massive form. The associated color ranges from deep purple to pale lavender. The presence of manganese in clear quartz produces amethyst, while additional amounts of iron content vary the purple coloration. The deepest amethyst colors occur in those crystals from Uruguay, Siberia, Africa, and Colorado. The most common occurrence is a medium purple color which is found in Brazil.

Double terminated crystals from Vera Cruz occur in the light amethyst color – this type is said to provide an immediate Beta state; in addition, it provides for stimulation of the throat chakra, then providing a calming effect – stimulating the heart chakra, then providing a calming effect; stroking it brings energy emission; placement on the arm also provides for tranquility. Double-terminated crystals from the locality of Brandenberg in The Republic of South Africa occur in a very deep amethyst color [sometimes with phantoms]. The very pale lavender variety of amethyst has been found in Oregon; the configuration is quite noticeable due to the three large and three small sides. Amethyst celestials, sometimes combined with smokey quartz, have been found in Montana and Brasil; they exhibit the properties of the celestial [see the QUARTZ section of this book] and those of amethyst and/or smokey quartz. Plates of flowers consisting of amethyst and quartz have also been found in Brasil – this configuration includes some clear quartz and brings lightness and lovingness to one’s environment.

Amethyst is a “stone of spirituality and contentment”. It facilitates the transmutation of lower energies into the higher frequencies of both the spiritual and ethereal levels.

It balances the energies of the intellectual, emotional, and physical bodies and provides a clear connection between the Earth plane and the other worlds. It clears the aura and stabilizes and transmutes any dysfunctional energy located within one’s body. Amethyst also bestows stability, strength, invigoration, and peace; the peace being the perfect peace that was present prior to birth.

It is also a “stone of meditation”, being excellent in conducting the energy of calm and peacefulness to help one to both enter and maintain the state. It opens and activates the crown chakra.
